Have you ever wished to be one of those mystical „forest folk“? All the time wandering in the nature, meditating and meeting wonderful animals and creatures? Well lets take a look how to make your own druid costume, its layers, materials and many more. Which colours should be used? Probably best colours are those which can be found in nature. So the main colour should be green, brown or grey (don’t use any shiny fabric). As secondary colours you can use colours of some flowers, for example burgundy, yellow or blue. But you should use it carefully and only in small amounts. Materials for clothes It's again the same as with the colours – best are natural materials such as wool or linen. You can also use cotton (I used it as the grey base of my robe). Big comfortable robe You can easily make this kind of robe or you can combine tunic with long skirt. It should be wide enough so you can run, dance or fight. Robe is composed of two layers – gray cotton and green wool with embroidered pattern. Belt to wear all your necessities This kind of robe is best looking with a wide belt around your waist. To decorate the belt i used the combination of celtic and viking styles. The buckle is best in bronze or „old gold“ colour. Pouch, phial and spoon For this purpose I chose a pouch with a little bit rustical visage. It is sewed with strap and made completely out of grain cowhide. all the leather accessory is in brown colour so this one too. It can be used for example to storage your herbs (you can also have a knife for collecting them) The phial in leather straps will give you a little bit more „alchemy“ appearance and spoon with pyrography is just cool thing to have. Jewelry from the nature As a druid you can be inspired by shamans and use jewelry made out of bones, feather, teeths etc. For my costume I used a brass ring and bracelet, boar tooth necklace and wooden coral bracelet. Another thing you can do is to braid you hair and decorate it with feathers and corals. Staff or Wand One of the main things you will need to make your look complete is your „weapon“. In this case the weapon will be probably staff or wand to cast your druid spells. I personally prefer staff because you can also use it in melee combat. This piece I made myself from bamboo, mirelon (soft material used to cover pipes), textil tape and colours. In the middle is hand-sewed leather decorated with white crystal. Cloak for the „mystical“ appearance Druid goes really well with viking style so instead of this cloak you can also use cloak from third picture. Feel free to combine them according to your taste. For the grey cloak you only need rectangle shaped piece of cloth (wool) and buckle. I really like this one and do you want to know a little secret? We found this piece in H&M few days before photographing in the section with decorations. Flask for mountain spring water It is always important to have something to store your drink in. For this purpose I used my classic leather flask. It could be probably more decorated in druid style (feather or crystal pendant) but i like this one for its simple look. Another thing you can wear over the shoulder is for example knitted canvas bag. What should your shoes look like?
When you think about it, druids mostly tend to barefoot. So you can choose some type of sandals or walk completely without shoes. In colder months you can go with viking stylized high leather shoes. Thats all from me and I hope you liked my view of the druid costume and style. In the next video I will show you how I made my druid staff ;) Sven Photos by Lumi
